What Does a GOOD Podcast Producer Do?

As with any career, the specific tasks performed vary from person to person and depend on what the client needs. The same holds true for Podcast Editors and Podcast Producers. My goal as a podcast producer is to support you with your podcast so that you sound great, get your time back and create an impact in the world.

A GOOD Podcast Producer will:

  • Remove background noise - like computer fan noise, noise from the street

  • Remove unwanted noise - like sneezes, coughs

  • Make the host volume match the guests - If your guest is quiet and you are louder, your Podcast Producer can correct this so you can both be easily heard

  • Remove harsh sounds like s’s and p’s - “S” sounds can be hard on the ears, your Podcast Producer can reduce these sounds so your listeners can concentrate on your content. “P” sounds can cause a low-end thumping noise that is jarring for your audience to listen to. These sounds can be reduced, if not removed with the help of your Podcast Producer.

  • Remove filler words - Nothing worse than listening to a whole bunch of umms, uhs, like’s, and crutch words. These waste your listeners' time and make you sound unprofessional! Get rid of them! A good Podcast Producer can get rid of most of them for you but if they are needed for context or meaning, your Producer needs to recognize when to leave them in.

  • Design your intro and outro - Your Podcast Producer can help you build and create your intro and outro.

  • Mix in music - Usually, music gets mixed in with your recorded intro or outro, sometimes you may want music to transition different parts of your podcast. Your Podcast Producer will mix in the music wherever you need it.

  • Make sure the loudness of the podcast matches the standards - Podcasts need to be at a certain loudness level. When they are not, you may have noticed that you need to turn up or down the volume of a podcast with each new episode. This makes for an unfavorable and unprofessional listening experience for your audience.

  • Publish to your podcast host for you so your podcast reaches the world - Your Podcast Producer can schedule your podcast episode to publish so you have less work to do!

As your Podcast Producer, I go above and beyond to save you time and take tasks off your plate so you have more time to focus on your business and your clients.

Once you have recorded your episodes, I will write your episode show notes for you. Show notes are a description and summary of what was talked about in the episode and usually include a description of the guest. They include any relevant website and social media links and any links to past shows you mentioned.

Marketing is an important part of growing your podcast audience. I create social media quote cards and audiograms to level up your marketing and get you in front of your audience. Social media quote cards are quotes from your podcast episode that I make into a social media graphic that can be posted to your social media accounts to promote your episode. Audiograms are a sound bite from your podcast episode with a waveform and a caption that can also be shared to social media accounts to promote your episode.

If you don’t have a podcast yet, I will help you launch your podcast. I will be right by your side to plan your launch and get your podcast up and running. Launching a podcast can be overwhelming and without help, you may feel lost and give up. I will keep you on track and guide you through the launch process.

Most of all, a good Podcast Producer will be there to support you on your journey. I’m here as your cheerleader and to help you troubleshoot any problems or issues you may run into. I care about my clients and I want to see you be successful! I want to elevate you and your business to the next level!
